\ufeff<\/span><\/p>\n A Texas newspaper removed a reference to a gay<\/a> man<\/a>\u2019s husband from his mother\u2019s obituary and cited \u201creligious\u201d and \u201cethical\u201d reasons.<\/p>\n Barry Giles and John Gambill are married and have been together for 31 years. When Giles\u2019 mother died, he submitted an obituary to the local paper, the Olton Enterprise. The paper removed references to Gambill.<\/p>\n As submitted, the obit read\u00a0\u201cThose left to cherish her memory include her son, Barry Giles and his husband, John Gambill of Dallas.\u201d The newspaper took the liberty of removing Gambill.<\/p>\n FOX4 reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n Gambill says his mother-in-law was family to him. So when he\u00a0saw<\/span><\/span>\u00a0he was cut out of the obituary, he was immediately suspicious. The couple<\/a> called the newspaper to find out what happened.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re human beings like anyone else,\u201d Giles said. \u201cWe have feelings. We have relationships, whether he agrees with them or not.\u201d<\/p>\n In more than three decades together, Giles and Gambill say they often took family trips with Giles\u2019 late mother, Brenda Light, and cared for her when she moved closer to them in Dallas.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s like my second mom, you know,\u201d Gambill said.<\/p>\n Shocker \u2013 the newspaper\u2019s publisher is a Baptist pastor, who released this statement to the news outlet:\u00a0\u201cIt is my religious conviction that a\u00a0male<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u00a0cannot have a husband.
