Former LSU running back Derrius Guice said he was asked if he is gay<\/a> during an interview at this week\u2019s NFL Combine.<\/p>\n Guice made the disclosure during an interview with SiriusXM\u2019s NFL show Late Hits, according to USA Today<\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n \u2018\u2019It was pretty crazy,\u201d\u00a0Guice said in an interview on the SiriusXM\u00a0NFL show\u00a0Late Hits.<\/em>\u00a0\u201cSome people are really trying to get in your head and test your reaction. \u2026\u00a0I go in one room, and a team will ask me do I like men<\/a>, just to see my reaction. I go in another room, they\u2019ll try to bring up one of my family members or something and tell me, \u2018Hey, I heard your mom sells herself. How do you feel about that?\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n Guice said he was told \u201cto come in prepared\u201d for the combine and everything that comes with it.<\/p>\n \u201cIt went exactly how everyone told me it would be,\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Guice said. \u201cIt\u2019s exhausting. \u2026 It was a great experience. You\u2019re being watched and tested the whole time.\u201d<\/p>\n The NFL is looking into Guice\u2019s claim, according to\u00a0spokesperson Brian\u00a0McCarthy.<\/p>\n Last year, a coach for the Atlanta Falcons asked NFL prospect Eli Apple if he is gay<\/a> while scouting him as a potential addition to the team.<\/p>\n After news of Apple\u2019s interview broke, Falcons head coach Dan Quinn released the following statement:<\/p>\n \u201cI am really disappointed in the question that was asked by one of our coaches. I have spoken to the coach that interviewed Eli Apple and explained to him how inappropriate and unprofessional this was. I have reiterated this to the entire coaching staff and I want to apologize to Eli for this even coming up. This is not what the Atlanta Falcons are about and it is not how we are going to conduct ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n McCarthy, also spoke out about the apparent questioning having to do with Apple\u2019s sexuality, saying,\u00a0\u201cThis is disappointing and clearly inappropriate as the Falcons acknowledged. We will look into it.\u201d<\/p>\n The Human Rights Campaign is responding to the report:<\/p>\n \u201cThe fact that Derrius Guice was asked by an NFL team \u2014 and a prospective employer \u2014 about his sexual orientation is absurd and inappropriate,\u201d said HRC Director of Public Education and Research, Ashland Johnson. \u201cWith similar incidents already reported, it\u2019s clear that the NFL did not do enough to prevent it from happening again. Guice\u2019s experience illustrates the risks faced by millions of LGBTQ people today in employment, athletics, housing and other areas of their lives. It\u2019s why we need swift action to condemn these kinds of practices and to fight for passage of the Equality Act to ensure comprehensive nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people. The NFL should take serious actions that address these unacceptable incidents and the perpetuation of an unwelcoming anti-LGBTQ environment, including publicly supporting the Equality Act.\u201d<\/p>\n This would be a good time for the @NFL<\/a> to not only condemn this incident, but to back the #EqualityAct<\/a>.
