\u201cIt\u2019s pretty tough for anyone to say something that cuts through all [the] nasty noise\u201d of the Trump administration with something worse, said Anderson Cooper on Monday night.<\/p>\n
But FOX News VP was the subject of Anderson\u2019s well-deserved \u2018Ridiculist\u2019 wrath for a column he wrote which appeared on FOX News\u2019 website and has since been removed.<\/p>\n
Wrote Moody in the column, to refresh your memory<\/a>:<\/p>\n Unless it\u2019s changed overnight, the motto of the Olympics, since 1894, has been \u201cFaster, Higher, Stronger.\u201d It appears the U.S. Olympic Committee would like to change that to \u201cDarker, Gayer, Different.\u201d If your goal is to win medals, that won\u2019t work.<\/p>\n A USOC official was quoted this week expressing pride (what else?) about taking the most diverse U.S. squad ever to the Winter Olympics. That was followed by a, frankly, embarrassing laundry list of how many African-Americans, Asians and openly gay<\/a> athletes are on this year\u2019s U.S. team. No sport that we are aware of awards points \u2013 or medals \u2013 for skin color or sexual orientation.<\/p>\n For the current USOC, a dream team should look more like the general population. So, while uncomfortable, the question probably needs to be asked: were our Olympians selected because they\u2019re the best at what they do, or because they\u2019re the best publicity for our current obsession with having one each from Column A, B and C?<\/p>\n \u201cWhy is he clutching his pearls in fear and outrage over Team USA?\u201d, asked Cooper. \u201cWell it turns out that of over 244 athletes on the team, two of them had the courage to say openly and proudly that they\u2019re gay<\/a>. And as for the darker part of Mr. Moody\u2019s Olympic fever dream? 10.\u201d<\/p>\n Added Cooper: \u201cFirst of all, darker, gayer, different is a terrible motto for the Olympics. It\u2019s not a bad motto for a gay<\/a> bar, I\u2019ll give you that, but I\u2019ll just assume those aren\u2019t Mr. Moody\u2019s favorite watering holes. Apparently Mr. Moody likes his Winter Olympics like he likes his orthodontia \u2013 straight, white, and all the same.\u201d<\/p>\n Anderson went on: \u201cDoes this guy<\/a> seriously have so little to do that he\u2019s sitting around worrying that people who have no athletic ability get put on an Olympic team just because they\u2019re gay<\/a> or African American? And does it strike anyone else as hugely inappropriate that a guy<\/a> who\u2019s apparently high up at a news organization is upset about another organization striving for diversity?\u201d<\/p>\n And finally, Anderson wondered what the hell he\u2019s doing at a \u201cnews\u201d organization: \u201cMoody\u2019s comments might be funny if he was just a crank standing out on the street corner on Sixth Avenue outside\u00a0Fox & Friends<\/em>\u00a0trying to get his sign on camera<\/a> with a sign saying \u2018darker, gayer, different\u2019\u2026but he is actually inside<\/em> the building in a top<\/em> position\u2026I don\u2019t know exactly what he does.
