Under the guise of \u201creligious freedom,\u201d the fact sheet highlights Trump\u2019s close connections with fringe anti-LGBTQ activists and hate groups<\/em><\/p>\n

NEW YORK –\u00a0<\/strong>GLAAD, the world\u2019s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, released the following statement in response to the White House\u2019s \u201creligious freedom\u201d fact sheet<\/a> issued this morning. The official government document cites numerous anti-LGBTQ actions including the White House\u2019s support<\/a> of a Colorado baker who denied to serve an LGBTQ couple<\/a> in the Supreme Court case Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission <\/em>alongside the Sothern Poverty Law Center-designated hate group Alliance Defending Freedom<\/a> and Trump\u2019s October speech to fringe anti-LGBTQ activists<\/a> at the Values Voter Summit.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump has assembled one of the most anti-LGBTQ administrations in recent history and has stopped at nothing to court fringe activists united around their desire to discriminate against LGBTQ Americans and erase the LGBTQ community\u2019s hard-fought progress,\u201d said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD<\/strong>. \u201cToday\u2019s document shows this is not a secret agenda, but rather something Trump proudly boasts as he continues to lead a culture war against LGBTQ Americans and other vulnerable communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The White House fact sheet<\/a> also cited Attorney General Jeff Sessions\u2019 sweeping anti-LGBTQ religious exemption guidance<\/a> which invited taxpayer-funded federal agencies, government employees, and government contractors to legally discriminate against LGBTQ people and the recent creation of the Department of Health and Human Services new \u201cConscience and Religious Freedom Division\u201d which openly promotes healthcare discrimination<\/a> against transgender patients, LGBTQ people, those living with HIV and AIDS.<\/p>\n
