Following Donald Trump\u2019s remarks that Democratic lawmakers were \u201cun-American\u201d and \u201ctreasonous\u201d for not applauding him during his State of the Union speech, military veteran and Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) fired back.<\/p>\n

Tweeted Duckworth: \u201cWe don\u2019t live<\/a> in a dictatorship or a monarchy. I swore an oath\u2014in the military and in the Senate\u2014to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, not to mindlessly cater to the whims of Cadet Bone Spurs and clap when he demands I clap\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump received five draft deferments during the Vietnam war<\/a>. Four were for education, one was for bone spurs in his heels \u2013 widely seen as a draft-dodging excuse.<\/p>\n

Trump, whose campaign is under investigation for colluding with Russia during the 2016 election, made the remarks in a speech he gave to an Ohioe crowd:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have the [Democrats] \u2013 even on positive news\u2026they were like death. And un-American. Somebody said \u2018treasonous.\u2019 I mean, yeah, I guess. Why not? Can we call<\/a> that treason? Why not?\u201d<\/p>\n
