Cecil Clarke, the mayor of Nova Scotia\u2019s second-largest municipality, has come out as gay<\/a> after someone threatened to out him.<\/p>\n Clarke, mayor of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, made the announcement in an interview with Canada\u2019s CBC network<\/a>:<\/p>\n Clarke said someone \u201cwanting to possibly shame\u201d him threatened to expose his personal life, so he\u00a0made the decision to share the information himself.<\/p>\n \u201cIf that\u2019s homophobia and the fact that I\u2019m gay<\/a> in political life, then shame on people that do that,\u201d he told CBC\u2019s\u00a0Mainstreet Cape Breton<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n Clarke is expected to announce on Saturday that he will seek the leadership of the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Party.
