‘Coronation Street’ Set To Include Costa And Co-Op Stores In Product Placement Deal<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2018Coronation Street\u2019<\/a> bosses have struck a new product placement deal that will see a Costa Coffee and a Co-Op supermarket opening in Weatherfield.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The high street chains will feature on screen when the ITV soap\u2019s new set extension<\/a> debuts later this year.<\/p>\n

The expanded outdoor set will reveal parts of Weatherfield viewers have never seen before, with the shop fa\u00e7ades opening for business in the spring.\u00a0<\/p>\n

ITV says other assets such as posters, bags and cups will be \u201cintegrated across the iconic soap\u201d, so you can expect to see Ken Barlow sipping from a Costa cup and Rita Tanner carrying around a Co-Op bag for life in the coming weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mark Trinder, sales director at ITV, said: \u201cThe expansion of the \u2018Coronation Street\u2019\u00a0set has given us a great opportunity to feature branded shop facades as more of Weatherfield is opened up to viewers. Incorporating product placement on this scale is something we have wanted to do for some time and we\u2019re delighted with this exciting opportunity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve worked really closely with the \u2018Coronation Street\u2019\u00a0team to make sure we\u2019ve got a great brand fit for Co-Op and Costa Coffee with the nation\u2019s favourite soap while still ensuring editorial integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bosses announced plans to double the size of the \u2018Coronation Street\u2019 set last year, following the announcement the soap was to begin airing six episodes a week.<\/p>\n

The move is designed to make it easier for the cast and crew to film more than one scene simultaneously.<\/p>\n

Executive producer, Kate Oates, previously teased what to expect from the set expansion<\/a>, which viewers have speculated will allow them to see more of the oft-mentioned Tile Street and Viaduct Street.<\/p>\n

She told\u00a0What\u2019s On TV<\/a>: \u201cThere will be a couple<\/a> of new businesses and we\u2019re going to have a little park area.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kate added: \u201cThere may also be another eatery with a different kind of vibe. We have already got the cafe and bistro. It\u2019s nice to see a community feel.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt does well for social dynamics if you\u2019ve got people who were friends who are now colleagues or someone is someone\u2019s boss. It always adds a nice energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Coronation Street\u2019 moved to its current studios in MediaCity in Salford in 2014, having previously been based in Manchester\u2019s Granada Studios since 1960.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The old \u2018Coronation Street\u2019 outdoor set originally opened as a tourist attraction after the cameras<\/a> stopped rolling, but the site is now being redeveloped and turned into flats and offices<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
