\nDonald Trump has apologised for retweeting far-right Britain First, saying he knows nothing about the group and has only just learnt they are \u201chorrible, racist people\u201d.<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with Piers Morgan aired on Good Morning Britain on Friday morning, the President said he wasn\u2019t aware of the impact of the incident as it \u201cwasn\u2019t a big story\u201d in the United States.<\/p>\n

When asked if he would be willing to apologise as\u00a0\u201cit would go a long way\u201d to help US-UK relations, Trump said: \u201cHere\u2019s what\u2019s fair – if you\u2019re telling me they\u2019re horrible, racist people I would certainly apologise – I know nothing about them.<\/p>\n

Morgan asked: \u201dYou would disavow yourself of people like that?\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump replied:\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t want to be involved with people like that but you\u2019re telling me about these people because I know nothing about these people.\u201d<\/p>\n

The incident in November prompted Theresa May to publicly criticise Trump for he first time, saying it was \u201cwrong for the President to have done this\u201d.<\/p>\n

Trump hit back almost immediately:<\/p>\n

.@Theresa_May, don\u2019t focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!<\/p>\n

\nThe videos<\/a> retweeted by Trump were either unverified or have been debunked.<\/p>\n

They included footage of migrants allegedly assaulting a boy<\/a> on crutches, clips of a boy<\/a> allegedly thrown of a roof and a video<\/a> claiming to show a Muslim destroying a statue of the Virgin Mary.
