Donald Trump Says ‘Rumour’ He Does Not Like Theresa May Is ‘False’<\/b><\/p>\n

Donald Trump claimed the suggestion he does not like Theresa May is a \u201cfalse rumour\u201d and said he and the prime minister are \u201con the same wavelength in every respect\u201d.<\/p>\n

The US President told reporters at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday afternoon that the US and UK had \u201cthe same ideas\u201d and \u201cthe same ideals\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sitting alongside May following a private meeting, Trump said he had \u201ctremendous respect\u201d for the prime minister and that the \u201cfeeling is mutual\u201d.<\/p>\n

May and Trump\u2019s relationship appeared to sour after Trump retweeted the far-right Britain First and then admonished the prime minister for not focusing on \u201cterrorism\u201d.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Davos, Trump said: \u201cThe prime minister and myself have had a really great relationship, although some people don\u2019t necessarily believe that.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I can tell you I have a tremendous respect for the prime minister and the job she is doing and I think the feeling is mutual from the standing point of liking each other a lot. We are on the same wavelength in every respect.\u201d<\/p>\n

The President added: \u201cThere was a little bit a of a false rumour out there I just wanted to correct it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump said on foreign affairs, he and May had \u201cthe same ideas, the same ideals.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is nothing that would happen to you that we won\u2019t be there to fight for you, you know that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

May told the gathered reporters that she and Trump had a \u201cgreat discussion\u201d in their meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe continue to have that really special relationship between the UK and the US, standing shoulder to shoulder because we\u2019re facing the same the same challenges across the world and as you say, we\u2019re working together to defeat those challenges and to meet them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd alongside that working for a good trade relationship in the future which will be to both our benefits so the US and the UK both do well out of this and it\u2019s been great to see you today.\u201d<\/p>\n

May\u2019s decision to offer Trump a formal state visit to the UK triggered a significant backlash in the UK – with MPs demanding it be cancelled.<\/p>\n

Emily Thornberry, Labour\u2019s shadow foreign secretary, recently described Trump as a \u201cracist\u201d and an \u201casteroid of awfulness that has fallen on this world\u201d\/<\/p>\n
