Tiffany Haddish and Andy Serkis announced the nominations for the 2018 Academy Award on Tuesday morning and several LGBTQ-inclusive nominees were among the honorees, which included A Fantastic Woman, The Shape of Water, Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird, <\/em>and the documentary Strong Island<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s a big day for LGBTQ-inclusive films at the Academy Awards. Films like The Shape of Water, A Fantastic Woman, Lady Bird,<\/em> and Call Me By Your Name<\/em> not only have complex, detailed, and moving portrayals, but prove that audiences and critics alike are hungry for stories which embrace diversity,\u201d said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President and CEO. \u201cThese important stories move the needle forward on LGBTQ acceptance at a time when media images are often the front lines for marginalized communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chile\u2019s A Fantastic Woman<\/em>, which tells the story of Marina, a transgender woman<\/a> faced with the death of a loved one, was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.<\/p>\n

Call Me By Your Name <\/em>star\u00a0Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet received a nomination for Lead Actor\u00a0and\u00a0James Ivory\u00a0received a nomination for Adapted Screenplay for the film as well.<\/p>\n

The Shape of Water<\/em>‘s Richard Jenkins recieved a Supporting Actor nomination for his portrayal of gay<\/a> man<\/a> living in repression in the 1960\u2019s.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"Shape<\/p>\n

Strong Island<\/em>, a documentary created by a trans<\/a> man<\/a>, Yance Ford, was nominated for Best Documentary Feature.<\/p>\n

‘This Is Me,’ from the film\u00a0The Greatest Showman<\/em>\u00a0was nominated for Original Song. ‘This Is Me’ was co-written by Benj Pasek, an out gay<\/a> man<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mudbound\u00a0<\/em>received a nomination for Adapted Screenplay for Dee Rees, an out lesbian<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Phantom Thread,\u00a0<\/em>co-produced by out lesbian<\/a> Megan Ellison\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0was nominated for Best Picture.<\/p>\n
