\nStand-out track \u2018Remember Me\u2019 is likely to become an Oscars contender when the Best Original Song nominations are announced on Tuesday (23 January).
\nWhile\u00a0\u2018Coco\u2019\u00a0bears many of its animation studio\u2019s trademarks – an emotional story, musical numbers and easter eggs aplenty – the movie is far from just another Pixar film.<\/p>\n

In its 19th production, \u2018Coco\u2019 sees Pixar tread new ground in two (seriously important) ways, as it marks the first time the studio has told a culturally conscious story, and also the first time a central character has been a person of colour.<\/p>\n

At a time when diversity is, rightly, an all-important topic in Hollywood, \u2018Coco\u2019 serves as a reminder that animated films aren\u2019t exempt from the conversation.<\/p>\n

Through plenty of careful research, their expert storytellers have crafted an authentic tale which was given the seal of approval upon its Mexico release last year, silencing anyone who feared the\u00a0D\u00eda de Muertos would not be portrayed sensitively and accurately.<\/p>\n

The visually outstanding Land of the Dead is peppered with references to Mexico\u2019s rich and varied history too: its deceased celebrities are now residing there and the architecture includes nods to vibrant cityscapes, alongside Aztec Pyramids.<\/p>\n

And with\u00a0thehelp of some genuinely surprising twists,\u00a0\u2018Coco\u2019 has made its way into the hearts of families around the world – and we expect it to do the same upon its UK release this weekend.<\/p>\n

One word of warning though: you will be humming \u2018Remember Me\u2019 until the end of time.<\/p>\n
