Russell Crowe<\/a> has led the tributes to late \u2018Home And Away\u2019<\/a> star Jessica Falkholt<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The actress,\u00a0who played Hope Morrison on the Aussie soap in 2016, passed away earlier this week<\/a>, following a horrific car crash on Boxing Day<\/a> that also took the lives of her parents and sister.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Australian actor Russell called her death a \u201csenseless waste of life\u201d as he shared his condolences on Twitter:\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018Home And Away\u2019 bosses also released a statement, paying tribute to Jess:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cJessica\u2019s shining talent was recognised and respected by all her cast mates and crew and her beautiful friendship treasured,\u201d a spokesman added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe send our sincere condolences to her extended family and friends during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

News of her death was confirmed in a statement from St George Hospital in Sydney on Tuesday (15 January).<\/p>\n

A spokesperson said: \u201cOn behalf of the family of Jessica Falkholt, St George Hospital has been asked to advise the media and the community of Jessica\u2019s passing today at 10.20am (local time).<\/p>\n

\u201cJessica passed away from serious injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on 26 December, 2017.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe family has asked for privacy during this very difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jessica was seriously injured in the highway crash near Ulladulla, New South Wales, on Boxing Day.<\/p>\n

Jessica\u2019s parents died at the scene along with a 50-year-old man<\/a>, after a four-wheel-drive crossed the road and collided with their car.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The soap star and her 21-year-old sister Annabelle were pulled from the wreckage before the vehicles became engulfed by flames.<\/p>\n

Annabelle died in hospital soon afterwards.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite undergoing surgery several times,\u00a0Jessica remained in a coma prior to her death.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During her two-month stint on \u2018Home And Away\u2019, Jessica\u2019s character was kidnapped by Spike Lowe, and arrested for stealing credit card details before being sent to prison.<\/p>\n
