Senator Jeff Flake will compare Donald Trump\u2019s rhetoric to that of Soviet Dictator Joseph Stalin in a speech he\u2019ll deliver on the Senate floor on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Flake says Trump\u2019s remarks should be \u201ca great source of shame\u201d for the Senate and the GOP and says his attacks on the media are an \u201cassault as unprecedented as it is unwarranted.\u201d<\/p>\n
CBS News reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n \u201cMr. President, it is a testament to the condition of our democracy that our own President uses words infamously spoken by Josef Stalin to describe his enemies,\u201d reads the excerpt. \u201cIt bears noting that so fraught with malice was the phrase \u2018enemy of the people,\u2019 that even Nikita Khrushchev forbade its use, telling the Soviet Communist Party that the phrase had been introduced by Stalin for the purpose of \u2018annihilating such individuals\u2019 who disagreed with the supreme leader.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhen a figure in power reflexively calls<\/a> any press that doesn\u2019t suit him \u2018fake news,\u2019 it is that person who should be the figure of suspicion, not the press,\u201d he\u2019s also expected to say.<\/p>\n In October,\u00a0Flake announced he is not going to seek re-election and delivered a sharp rebuke<\/a>\u00a0of Trump on the Senate floor.
