‘Celebrity Big Brother’: Ann Widdecombe And Amanda Barrie Face Victim-Blaming Backlash Over Harvey Weinstein Comments<\/b><\/p>\n

Ann Widdecombe<\/a> and Amanda Barrie<\/a> had only been in the \u2018Celebrity Big Brother\u2019<\/a> for a few hours when they faced their first backlash over comments made about sexual assault allegations levelled at Harvey Weinstein<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Viewers have accused the pair of victim blaming after claiming the Hollywood producer\u2019s alleged victims had a \u201cchoice\u201d in the situations they found themselves in.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During a conversation on Wednesday (3 January) night\u2019s show, ex-\u2018Coronation Street\u2019<\/a> star Amanda argued:\u00a0\u201cWhen it comes to the Harvey Weinstein bit, I think someone should have said, it\u2019s not really worth it, darling. I\u2019d rather not get the part.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amanda continued: \u201d[Sexual favours] were always indicated, but if you\u2019re stupid enough to go to bed with someone because you want the part, you just don\u2019t get it!\u201d<\/p>\n

Journalist Rachel Johnson<\/a> then pointed out that many actresses were – in Amanda\u2019s words – \u201cstupid enough\u201d, to which Ann responded: \u201cThat\u2019s on them. That was down to them. They had a choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Model Jess Impiazzi was quick to defend the victims, telling her housemates:\u00a0\u201cI would be terrified if I was in an audition and a man<\/a> came at me,\u201d Jess argued. \u201cI would be awfully terrified\u2026 If a big man<\/a> came at me, I\u2019d be terrified.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of a sudden you end up doing something you really, truly wouldn\u2019t want to end up doing. But you\u2019re doing it, and you realise, I have a choice in that very moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ann and Amanda\u2019s comments proved controversial, with many on social media condemning their views:\u00a0<\/p>\n

A number of women<\/a> have\u00a0accused Weinstein of sexual harassment, abuse, and – in three cases – rape<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When the first reports emerged in early October, he apologised for inappropriate behaviour an enrolled in an outpatient rehab programme, but has \u201cvehemently denied\u201d all accusations of rape.\u00a0<\/p>\n
