Lord Adonis Resigns With Scathing Letter Calling Theresa May The ‘Voice Of UKIP’<\/b>
\nTheresa May\u2019s infrastructure tsar has quit, delivering a scathing verdict on the Prime Minister\u2019s approach to Brexit.<\/p>\n

Europhile Labour peer Lord Adonis resigned as chairman of the National Infrastructure Commission, claiming May had become the \u201cvoice of Ukip\u201d and the \u201cextreme\u201d right-wing of her party.<\/p>\n

He said he was \u201cduty bound\u201d to oppose the Government\u2019s European Union (Withdrawal) Bill when it comes to the House of Lords, reports the Press Association.<\/p>\n

In his resignation letter, reported by The Sun and The Daily Telegraph, he told the Prime Minister: \u201cBrexit is a dangerous populist and nationalist spasm worthy of Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the narrow referendum vote for an undefined proposition to \u2018leave the EU,\u2019 it could have been attempted without rupturing our essential European trade and political relations.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, by becoming the voice of UKIP and the extreme nationalist right-wing of your party, you have taken a different course, for which you have no parliamentary or popular mandate.\u201d<\/p>\n

But The Sun also reports that Government sources have insisted the Labour peer was quitting before \u201che was pushed\u201d.<\/p>\n

A National Infrastructure Commission spokeswoman confirmed that Lord Adonis had written to the Prime Minister.
