Bradley Lowery Honoured With Posthumous Award At Emotional BBC Sports Personality Of The Year<\/b>

Bradley Lowery<\/a>, the six-year-old whose brave fight against a rare form of cancer captured the nation\u2019s heart,\u00a0was posthumously honoured at the BBC\u2019s Sports Personality of the Year event on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

Sunderland super-fan Bradley, who fought against neuroblastoma from 18 months old, and his family were given the Helen Rollason Award for \u201coutstanding achievement in the face of adversity\u201d.<\/p>\n

Bradley\u00a0died in July in his parents\u2019 arms<\/a>\u00a0at his home in Blackhall, County Durham.<\/p>\n

\n

He will never be forgotten.<\/p>\n

The award was accompanied by a moving film that documented how the youngster was always smiling.<\/h4>\n

After his diagnosis in 2012, Bradley underwent two years of treatment, which resulted in his cancer going onto remission.<\/p>\n

The clip also charted his friendship with his footballing hero, England and then-Sunderland striker\u00a0Jermain Defoe<\/a>, who visited him in hospital throughout his treatment.<\/p>\n

In March,\u00a0Defoe and Bradley were given the honour of leading out England at Wembley ahead of England\u2019s World Cup qualifier against Lithuania.<\/p>\n

The striker also joined friends and family at Bradley\u2019s funeral, leaving pre-season training camp in Spain with his new club Bournemouth so he can attend the service in the north East.<\/p>\n

Many people watching were moved by Bradley\u2019s story.<\/h4>\n
