{"id":58815,"date":"2017-12-08T02:15:33","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T07:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gayfriendschat.com\/socialblog\/brexit-divorce-deal-finally-agreed-between-uk-and-eu\/"},"modified":"2017-12-08T02:15:33","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T07:15:33","slug":"brexit-divorce-deal-finally-agreed-between-uk-and-eu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gayfriendschat.com\/socialblog\/brexit-divorce-deal-finally-agreed-between-uk-and-eu\/","title":{"rendered":"Brexit Divorce Deal Finally Agreed Between UK And EU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Brexit Divorce Deal Finally Agreed Between UK And EU<\/b><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.huffingtonpost.com\/asset\/5a2a339f1900002500cca1b4.jpeg\" data-caption=\"\" alt=\"\" data-credit=\"EMMANUEL DUNAND via Getty Images\" data-portal-copyright=\"EMMANUEL DUNAND via Getty Images\" data-provider=\"getty\" data-provider-asset-id=\"888054722\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"true\"><\/p>\n<p>Theresa May has agreed an historic Brexit divorce deal with the European Union, paving the way for the negotiations to move onto future trade talks.<\/p>\n<p>After a pre-dawn meeting in Brussels, the Prime Minister joined European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in announcing the breakthrough.<\/p>\n<p>Juncker announced that \u201csufficient progress\u201d had been made in the talks to allow both sides to move onto discussions of a future trade deal between the UK and EU after 2019.<\/p>\n<p>May said the deal \u201chad required give and take on both sides\u201d and after \u201csome tough negotiations\u201d she had agreed to not just a \u2018divorce bill\u2019 but also guaranteed rights for EU and UK citizens and new words on the crucial issue of Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m confident that we can ensure we both won\u2019t have a hard border in Northern Ireland but will retain the economic integrity of the United Kingdom,\u201d May said.<\/p>\n<p>The deal came after a night of lengthy telephone diplomacy with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) over the fate of the Irish border in any future post-Brexit trade deal.<\/p>\n<p>The DUP, which props up May\u2019s minority government in Westminster, gave the first confirmation of the breakthrough when its leader Arlene Foster announced the whole of the UK would quit the EU single market and customs union.<\/p>\n<p>Foster insisted that six major changes had been made to an earlier draft agreement on how Northern Ireland would conduct its trade with the Republic of Ireland and the rest of the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The breakthrough today means the UK can now begin talks on a post-Brexit free trade agreement with Brussels.<\/p>\n<p>The EU had refused to progress negotiations to phase two until a deal was done on the Irish border, citizens\u2019 rights and how much money the UK will pay as it leaves the bloc.<\/p>\n<div>\n<blockquote align=\"center\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">President <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JunckerEU?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JunckerEU<\/a> welcomes Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/theresa_may?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@theresa_may<\/a>.
