Alexandra Burke Admits She\u2019s Now Too \u2018Self-Conscious\u2019 To Show Real Emotions On \u2018Strictly\u2019 After \u2018Fake\u2019 Accusations<\/b>
\nAlexandra Burke has admitted that the negativity she has been on the receiving end of during her time on \u2018Strictly Come Dancing\u2019 has led to her bottling up her emotions.<\/p>\n

The singer says she\u2019s now too self-conscious to show how she\u2019s really feeling after she was repeatedly accused of being \u201cfake\u201d by some viewers on social media.<\/p>\n

In her weekly \u2018Strictly\u2019 column in Radio Times, she admits that while she\u2019s loved her time on the BBC dance show, some of the abuse levelled against her has taken its toll.<\/p>\n

She says: \u201cI\u2019ve had my fair share of negative press since winning The X Factor nine years ago, but I\u2019ve never experienced anything like this.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwitter seems to have given people permission to be incredibly hurtful. They don\u2019t seem to realise that I have feelings and get upset.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe saddest thing is that I started the show completely myself \u2013 my joy and my tears were 100 percent genuine, however much people said they were fake \u2013 but I\u2019m now so self-conscious, I try not to react at all in case people say, \u2018Oh, look, here are the fake tears again\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel I\u2019ve got to lock my emotions away, where before I used to wear my heart on my sleeve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the negativity online and in certain sections of the press, the 29-year-old goes on to reveal that the show has also been her \u201clifeline\u201d after her mother died just before this year\u2019s series kicked off.<\/p>\n

\u201cLosing her just before the show started has made the whole experience bittersweet, but it has also been my lifeline,\u201d Alex explains. \u201cHaving something so positive for me, and my family, to focus on at such a sad time has been incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former \u2018X Factor\u2019 winner also praised her dance partner, Gorka Marquez, who she says has become a \u201cfriend for life\u201d, despite reports in certain tabloids that they don\u2019t get on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so grateful to him for putting up with everything I\u2019ve been going through, emotionally and psychologically,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur relationship has been more intense than other partnerships and I\u2019m sure he\u2019s felt that strain, but he is always there for me and has never, ever made me feel bad.\u201d<\/p>\n
