NEW YORK \u2013 <\/strong>GLAAD, the world\u2019s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today denounced the Senate\u2019s tax bill and exposed how the bill targets low income and LGBTQ Americans. This tax bill aims to eliminate<\/a> the individual mandate, a key component of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which will cause 13 million<\/a> low income Americans to lose healthcare, and its 1.5 trillion dollar price tag could trigger massive spending cuts to programs like Medicaid<\/a>, which is the largest federal funder of HIV care and treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cSenate Republicans are continuing their relentless attack on affordable healthcare and critical programs for low income and LGBTQ Americans under the guise of their tax bill,\u201d said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD<\/strong>. \u201cHealthcare is a human right and the Senate must reject ramming through this destructive and dangerous bill that clearly targets our nation\u2019s most marginalized communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Senate tax bill eliminates<\/a> the individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without it, millions of people will drop out of the insurance market and drive up health care costs<\/strong><\/em>. This will result in 13 million<\/a> low income individuals losing healthcare coverage in the next 10 years, with 4 million losing health coverage in the first year. Cutting health care will affect people at risk for, or living with HIV and result in lack of access to essential medications.<\/em><\/p>\n
