Nominations were announced this morning for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, and the list includes several LGBTQ musicians and songwriters. Singer\/songwriter Andra Day revealed the nominees in the four major General Field categories (Best New Artist, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Album Of The Year) live<\/a> on “CBS This Morning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among those four, out queer songwriter – and GLAAD board member – Justin Tranter received a songwriting nomination in the Song of the Year category for his work with good friend (and LGBTQ ally) Julia Michaels on her mega-hit \u201cIssues<\/a>.\u201d Michaels was also nominated for Best New Artist.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Best Pop Solo Performance category will be one to watch this year, with bisexual<\/a> artists Kesha and Lady Gaga both nominated, for \u201cPraying<\/a>\u201d and \u201cMillion Reasons<\/a>,\u201d respectively. Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, and Ed Sheeran round out this category for \u201cLove So Soft<\/a>,\u201d \u201cWhat About Us<\/a>,\u201d and \u201cShape of You<\/a>,\u201d respectively.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

“It is exciting to see groundbreaking LGBTQ artists like Lady Gaga, Kesha, Justin Tranter, Kehlani, and Shane McAnally recognized on the music industry’s largest stage. They represent so many talented LGBTQ music artists who don\u2019t receive the same recognition despite critical acclaim and widespread popularity,\u201d said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD. “As more and more artists and writers step forward and reflect the diverse identities and orientations of society, it\u2019s important that the Recording Academy and the industry at large step up their game to recognize all worthy talent and performances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kehlani, who is “very openly queer”\u00a0as she told MTV<\/a> and who has had relationships with both men<\/a> and women<\/a>, was nominated for Best R&B Performance for \u201cDistraction<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In the Best Country Song category, out songwriter Shane McAnally was nominated twice – once for Sam Hunt\u2019s \u201cBody Like A Back Road<\/a>\u201d and again for \u201cDrinkin’ Problem<\/a>,\u201d performed by Midland. \u201cBody Like A Back Road\u201d has become one of the most successful country songs of all time, breaking a number of records in its historic chart run.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Jay-Z was nominated in the Album of the Year category for \u201c4:44\u201d; his mother, Gloria Carter, came out as a lesbian<\/a> on the album\u2019s third track, \u201cSmile.\u201d LGBTQ ally Lorde was nominated in Album of the Year for her album \u201cMelodrama,\u201d which features a track (\u201cLiability<\/a>\u201d) about same-sex<\/a> love.<\/p>\n

LGBTQ advocates Imagine Dragons were nominated for Best Pop Duo\/Group Performance for \u201cThunder<\/a>,\u201d where they\u2019ll compete against ally Alessia Cara for her featured work on the Zedd track, \u201cStay<\/a>.\u201d In the Best Pop Vocal Album category their new album, \u201cEvolve,\u201d will compete against Kesha\u2019s \u201cRainbow\u201d and Gaga\u2019s \u201cJoanne.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The late Carrie Fisher received a posthumous nomination for Best Spoken Word Album for \u201cThe Princess Diarist<\/a>.\u201d Fisher presented the Vanguard Award to her stepmother Elizabeth Taylor at the 11th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in 2000 in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

In the Best Musical Theater Album category out songwriter Benj Pasek was nominated both as a producer and composer\/lyricist along his ally songwriter partner, Justin Paul, for their work on \u201cDear Evan Hanson<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0They\u2019ll compete in that category alongside longtime gay<\/a> icon and ally Bette Midler, for her performance as a principal soloist in the revival of \u201cHello, Dolly!\u201d<\/p>\n

Pasek and Paul were also nominated for the song \u201cCity of Stars<\/a>,\u201d from the soundtrack to the film \u201cLa La Land,\u201d in the Best Song Written For Visual Media category. They\u2019ll compete against queer singer Sia, who\u2019s nominated for \u201cNever Give Up<\/a>\u201d from the film \u201cLion.\u201d Out credited music supervisor Steven Gizicki was also nominated for his work on \u201cLa La Land\u2019s\u201d soundtrack.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The 60th Annual Grammy Awards will air live<\/a> on CBS on Sunday, January 28th at 8pm ET \/ 5pm PT from Madison Square Garden in New York City (the first time since 2003, that the Grammys have taken place outside of Los Angeles). This year\u2019s ceremony will be hosted for the second year in a row by James Corden.<\/p>\n
