A new report in Vanity Fair<\/em> describes Melania Trump\u2019s role in the decision her husband made to run for president, saying \u2013 as many suspected \u2013 that she had no desire to be first lady<\/a>.<\/p>\n

VF\u2019s Sarah Ellison reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n

There may never have been a First Lady less prepared for or suited to the role. \u201cThis isn\u2019t something she wanted and it isn\u2019t something he ever thought he\u2019d win,\u201d one longtime friend of the Trumps\u2019 told me. \u201cShe didn\u2019t want this come hell or high water. I don\u2019t think she thought it was going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

But she was instrumental in pushing him toward running, VF also reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u2026it was in part Melania\u2019s impatience with her husband\u2019s dithering that helped push Trump to declare his candidacy. \u201cShe knew it was in his blood,\u201d Stone said. \u201cHe always wanted to run. She is the one who pushed him to run just by saying run or do not run. I don\u2019t think she was ever too crazy about it.\u201d She knew her husband wanted to run for president. And she knew that, if he didn\u2019t, he was likely to be knocking around their gilded triplex in Trump Tower, muttering about how he should have done so. \u201cShe said, \u2018It\u2019s not my thing. It\u2019s Donald\u2019s thing,\u2019 \u201d according to Stone. \u201cAnd I think she understood he was going to be unhappy if he didn\u2019t run.\u201d<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t want him at home, so we got him.<\/p>\n
