Labour MPs Reveal Alleged Budget Jibe By Tory Whip Who Said Jeremy Corbyn ‘Should Be In Care’<\/b>
\nA Tory whip is facing a furious backlash after he allegedly said Jeremy Corbyn\u00a0\u2018should be in care\u2019 during a debate on the budget.<\/p>\n

Labour MPs lodged formal complaints and branded the jibe –\u00a0which they say was made by Andrew Griffiths as Corbyn criticised the government\u2019s failure to mention social care in its economic plans – \u2018disgraceful\u2019.<\/p>\n

Sources said the heckler made an \u201cageist\u201d joke along the lines of \u201cyou should be in a care home\u201d, to which a visibly angry Corbyn responded: \u201cI hope the honourable member begins to understand what it\u2019s like to wait for social care, stuck in a hospital bed, while other people have to give up their work to care for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe uncaring, uncouth attitude of certain members opposite should be called out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Laura Smith, who represents Crewe and Nantwich, told HuffPost UK: \u201cThis was absolutely disgraceful, none of us could believe what we were hearing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact he\u2019s a government whip shows that hurling abuse is now a deliberate and calculated Tory ploy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith said she had reported the comments to Deputy Speaker Lindsay Hoyle.<\/p>\n

Her Labour colleague, Ian Mearns, could be seen shouting and gesturing for Griffiths to \u201cget out\u201d of the Commons chamber after allegedly making the remark.<\/p>\n

Corbyn described Philip Hammond\u2019s budget as \u201ca record of failure with a forecast of more\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cEconomic growth has been revised down. Productivity growth has been revised down. Business investment revised down,\u201d the Labour leader said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople\u2019s wages and living standards revised down. What sort of \u2018strong economy, fit for the future\u2019 is that?\u201d<\/p>\n
