Transition can be an extremely difficult and isolating time for someone who is transgender.\u00a0Not only is there uncertainty and fear, but blatant transphobia in the media (and all around) and few people, if any, to talk to.<\/p>\n

But a group of trans<\/a> women<\/a> have lent their voices to a very important cause, reaching out to those going through transition so they don\u2019t have to make the journey alone.<\/p>\n

In today\u2019s New Activist episode\u00a0–\u00a0released on Trans Day Of Remembrance, which honours the memories of those lost in anti-transgender violence – well-known trans<\/a> women<\/a> read essays from a new book \u2018To My Trans Sisters<\/a>\u2019, which contains letters from 100 transgender women<\/a> offering advice to girls<\/a> at the start of their transitions.<\/p>\n

Charlie Craggs, the books\u2019 editor and star of HuffPost UK\u2019s \u2018New Activists\u2019 series, explains to us: \u201cThe book is\u00a0\u2018what we wish we knew\u2019… It contains letters from a plethora of inspiring trans<\/a> women<\/a>: from trailblazing politicians to celebrated entertainers, pioneering scientists to bestselling authors, and some straight-up trans<\/a> icons too; women<\/a> who have literally changed the world…\u00a0I like to call<\/a> it an encyclopaedia of trans<\/a> excellence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie says: \u201cInitially I thought practical transition tips would be most helpful <\/em>
to you. Like advice about presenting and passing as female<\/a>. Styling advice, make-up tips, how to cover five o\u2019clock shadow, the physical side of transition.<\/em>
But then I realised, as useful as they might be, this is what we get caught up in\u00a0<\/em>
so often and what our entire transition and lives become centred around.<\/em>
When what really matters is what lies behind the clothes, behind the make-up, behind the 5 o\u2019clock shadow.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Dr Kate Stone, CEO of Novalia, says:\u00a0<\/span>\u201cDear sis, don\u2019t get lost in transition. The aim of transition is to come out at the other side.\u00a0<\/span>For too many of us, transition itself can become the focus.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Rhyannon Styles, author and writer for Elle urges those transitioning to be patient:\u00a0\u201cBelieve it or not a transition can\u2019t happen overnight.\u00a0<\/span>You can\u2019t flick a switch and suddenly expect be the person you always dreamed of. Unfortunately it doesn\u2019t happen like that…<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a journey of self-love, self-care and self-acceptance. Isn\u2019t that right sister?\u00a0<\/span>Stand up, stand out, be bold and be proud. Most importantly, be you.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Christine Burns MBE, a British political activist, says:\u00a0\u201cSo what wisdom can I offer? The first\u00a0<\/span>thing is that people can surprise you.\u00a0<\/span>The people you anticipate being the most likely\u00a0<\/span>to reject you may turn out to be unexpected allies.\u00a0<\/span>I thought for instance that my parents might very possibly reject me.\u00a0<\/span>In the event, they turned out to be my staunchest allies and cheerleaders.
