A bus company in Manchester<\/a>, England has launched an investigation after a gay<\/a> couple<\/a> alleged a driver subjected them to homophobic taunts.<\/span><\/p>\n

John Mullarkey and Steven Crosbie say a First Manchester driver made an offensive \u201climp wrist\u201d after they disembarked a bus on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Manchester Evening News<\/em><\/b><\/a> reports:<\/span><\/p>\n

The couple<\/a> say the driver had first seen them holding hands before the journey, as they queued at Shudehill Station, and closed the door in their faces as they went to get on board.<\/span><\/p>\n

John and Steven ran up to the next bus stop, where they were able to board the same service, but say the same driver was then \u2018abrupt and arrogant\u2019 towards them.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was shortly after, when they were getting off the bus in Heywood, that they say the driver made the offensive hand gestures.<\/span><\/p>\n

Crosbie explained:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe was thanking the customers in front of us, but he was just very abrupt and arrogant with us.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe just looked away. I wouldn\u2019t even call<\/a> him a bus driver. I\u2019ve never experienced anything like it before on public transport.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs he drove away he was also shouting something at us, but as the windows were closed we couldn\u2019t hear what it was.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was bullied for five years in school for being gay<\/a>, but it\u2019s 2017 and it shouldn\u2019t still be happening.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not the first time this kind of thing has happened since I left school, but it is the first time it\u2019s happened on public transport, that\u2019s what shocked me the most. It was the worst experience of my life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was just disgusting,\u201d added Mullarkey. \u201cI only came out in 2016 and this was my first horrible experience, and from it to come from a bus driver, it didn\u2019t feel nice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A First Manchester spokesperson confirmed the company is conducting a full investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n
