Jo Brand<\/a> has received widespread praise after taking last night\u2019s Have I Got News For You<\/a> guests to task over why sexual harassment should be taken seriously.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The comedian offered a ringing rebuke following a series of jokes by the all-male<\/a> panel over recent misconduct allegations within Parliament, with viewers accusing panelists of trying to \u201cdownplay\u201d harassment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While Daily Mail columnist Quentin Letts called journalist Julia Hartley-Brewer a \u201cbig strong girl<\/a>\u201d following accusations that former Defence Secretary Michael Fallon repeatedly touched her knee at a dinner a number of years ago, Ian Hislop laughed over one allegation of a Tory MP taking his personal trainer to the cinema.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of this isn\u2019t high-level crime, is it?\u201d Hislop said. \u201cCompared to say, Putin or Trump.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Earning herself whoops and hollers of support from the studio audience, Brand cut in:\u00a0\u201cIf I could only say that as the only representative of the female<\/a> gender here today, I know it\u2019s not high level but it doesn\u2019t have to be high level for women<\/a> to feel under siege in somewhere like the House of Commons.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

She continued:\u00a0\u201cAnd actually for women<\/a>, if you\u2019re constantly being harassed even in a small way, that builds up and that wears you down.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry, I thought I was on Question Time for a minute,\u201d\u00a0Brand joked.<\/p>\n

In recent weeks, there have been numerous allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment within the House of Commons.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While Tory MP Fallon stepped down from his Defence role earlier in the week<\/a>,\u00a0admitting his previous conduct had \u201cfallen short\u201d of military standards, fellow Conservative Charlie Elphicke last night had the Tory whip suspended following \u2019serious allegations\u201d that have been referred to the police<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Dover MP has denied any wrongdoing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
