Former Trump Foreign Policy Adviser George Papadopoulos secretly pleaded guilty on October 3\u00a0 to making false statements to the FBI, according to an indictment unsealed today.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s the indictment<\/a>.<\/p>\n The NYT reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n A professor with close ties to the Russian government told an adviser to Donald Trump\u2019s presidential campaign in April 2016 that Moscow had \u201cdirt\u201d on Hillary Clinton in the form of \u201cthousands of emails,\u201d according to court documents unsealed Monday.<\/p>\n The adviser, George Papadopoulos, has pleaded guilty to lying to the F.B.I. about that conversation. The plea represents the most explicit evidence connecting the Trump campaign to the Russian government\u2019s meddling in last year\u2019s election.<\/p>\n Mr. Papadopoulos repeatedly tried to arrange a meeting between the Trump campaign and Russian government officials, court records show.<\/p>\n Mr. Papadopoulos told the F.B.I. in January that the professor was \u201ca nothing.\u201d But Mr. Papadopoulos now acknowledges that he knew the professor had \u201csubstantial connections to Russian government officials.\u201d<\/p>\n The L.A. Times<\/em> reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n Papadopoulos\u00a0was one of several foreign policy advisors to Trump during his campaign.<\/p>\n Papadopoulos\u00a0previously served as a policy and economic advisor to Ben Carson, who notably struggled with domestic and foreign policy issues during his failed presidential run.<\/p>\n Before that,\u00a0the 30-year-old was a consultant at a London-based oil and gas company. He\u2019s a director at the London Centre of International Law Practice.
