The American Family Association subgroup One Million Moms is predictably enraged over the Disney Channel\u2019s groundbreaking introduction of a gay character<\/a> into its popular series Andi Mack.<\/p>\n

Writes the group in a call<\/a> to action on its website<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u00a0What is wrong with having family-friendly content that is acceptable for all ages or even leaving a couple<\/a> of networks solely for children\u2019s entertainment? Disney Channel is gradually becoming another Freeform Network. As one of only a few channels catering to children, it cannot possibly be that Disney Channel has a financial need for more adult viewers.<\/p>\n

By choosing to abandon family-friendly entertainment, Disney\u2019s inexplicable choice to move toward more \u201cadult\u201d fare may ultimately prove to be a huge mistake.<\/p>\n

Disney\u2019s\u00a0first gay<\/a> kiss aired earlier this year on Disney XD\u2019s animated series\u00a0\u201cStar vs. the Forces of Evil.\u201d The scene took place at a concert where the band played a romantic tune that inspired many couples<\/a> in the audience to kiss; a few of those couples<\/a> \u2014 none of which involved a main character \u2014 were same sex<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Disney Channel is deliberately choosing to \u201cmove forward\u201d and promote adult content to children. By choosing to move in the direction of more \u201cadult\u201d stories and content, the Disney Channel \u2013 and the entire Disney media empire \u2013 may be choosing to sacrifice something far more precious\u2026 children\u2019s innocence.<\/p>\n

Disney won\u2019t budge on this.<\/p>\n
