GLAAD Campus Ambassadors go purple to fight bullying and empower young LGBTQ people<\/b><\/p>\n

This year, GLAAD\u2019s Campus Ambassadors took Spirit Day to their campuses around the country\u00a0and encouraged their fellow students to go purple. Here are just a few of our remarkable campus ambassadors and how they went purple\u00a0to fight against bullying and inspire other LGBTQ students.<\/p>\n

Teagan Rabuano,\u00a0New York University<\/h2>\n

T-Party<\/a>, a club\u00a0for trans<\/a>, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming students and their allies at NYU,\u00a0had a photoshoot facilitated by GLAAD Campus Ambassador Teagan Rabuano. The Spirit Day photoshoot promoted words that empower transgender and gender non-conforming people rather than tear them down.<\/p>\n

Nicole Gemmiti, Berklee\u00a0College of Music<\/h2>\n

At Berklee College of Music, Nicole Gemmiti\u2019s organization, LGBT+ United, led a focused meeting on the impact of bullying, discrimination, and harassment of LGBTQ people.<\/p>\n

The Brazosport College LGBTQSA organization\u00a0held a group discussion about bullying where they talked about personal experiences with bullying growing up, and what they\u00a0can do to break the culture of silence that exists around LGBTQ issues in their community.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fausto\u00a0invited popular youtuber\u00a0Kat Blaque<\/a>\u00a0to speak at their university,\u00a0University of Central Florida, on Spirit Day.<\/p>\n

Sorrel celebrated Spirit Day at the University of Oregon\u00a0by wearing purple and waving her Rainbow flag high and proud for all to see!<\/p>\n

About Spirit Day<\/h2>\n

Each year, millions go purple for GLAAD\u2019s Spirit Day to support LGBTQ youth in a united stand against bullying. Started in 2010 by high school student Brittany McMillan in response to numerous young LGBTQ lives lost to suicide, Spirit Day now draws the participation of celebrities, schools, faith institutions, national landmarks, corporations, media outlets, sports leagues, and advocates around the world, all joining together to stand against bullying and support LGBTQ youth.<\/p>\n

As anti-LGBTQ policies, hate crimes, and harassment are on the rise, it is now especially important to let all marginalized youth know they are supported.<\/p>\n
