Black Emperor<\/b>,\u00a0Tegan and Sarah<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s covers album arrives not a moment too soon,\u00a0Taylor Swift<\/a><\/strong> is in fine form on \u201cGorgeous\u201d and\u00a0The Smiths<\/strong> get the 30th anniversary deluxe treatment.<\/p>\n Godspeed You! Black Emperor \u2013 <\/b>Luciferian Towers<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Canadian post rock anarchists\u00a0<\/span>Godspeed You! Black Emperor<\/b> are on fine form on their latest album <\/span>Luciferian Towers<\/span><\/i>, a suitably sprawling eight-tracks over 43 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n Concerned mostly with an end to \u201cthe expert fuckers who broke this world,\u201d the album is a cacophony of noise that somehow or other remains subtle enough you could imagine it as a background to particularly intense reading of Allen Ginsberg\u2019s <\/span>Howl<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Tegan and Sara \u2013 <\/b>The Con X: Covers<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n As previously flagged<\/a>, <\/span>Tegan and Sarah<\/b> have just released <\/span>The Con X: Covers<\/b> to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their breakthrough album.<\/span><\/p>\n Tegan explains:<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe wanted the proceeds to go to our recently launched Tegan and Sara Foundation, which raises money for self-identified women<\/a> and girls<\/a> in the LGBTQ community. With that intention set, we asked 14 artists who were either outspoken allies of the LGTBQ community or LGBTQ themselves to each cover a song from The Con, in any fashion they saw fit. All the artists agreed to donate their time and energy to the project and their labels all agreed to waive their fees as well. We are beyond grateful for the contributions of each artist, and we hope fans of The Con will be moved by their interpretations.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Included are covers by the likes of <\/span>CHVRCHES, Bleachers, Ryan Adams<\/b>, the lovely <\/span>Shura<\/b> and \u2013 gasp! \u2013 <\/span>Cyndi Lauper<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n Proceeds from the duos The Con X: Tour will also go to their foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n Highlights? Shura and Cyndi obviously.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Taylor Swift \u2013 \u201cGorgeous\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Prior to the release of her sixth album on November 10th, <\/span>Taylor Swift<\/b> has released new track \u201cGorgeous.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n She\u2019ll probably never reach the heady heights of \u201cBegin Again\u201d again-again but as is often the case with Swift, she\u2019s still showing pop kids how real women<\/a> do effortlessly brilliant pop.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Smiths \u2013\u00a0The Queen Is Dead (Deluxe Anniversary Edition)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n And so it arrives, the 30th anniversary remastered edition of\u00a0The Smiths<\/a>\u2018<\/strong> seminal\u00a0The Queen Is Dead<\/em>.<\/p>\n Featuring the original album remastered (not much difference unless your listening on really good headphones to be honest), there\u2019s also the requisite\u00a0Live<\/em> section (1985 in Boston) and the genuinely fascinating middle bit comprised of demos\/early versions\/outtakes. What\u2019s interesting about many of those demos is how close they sound to earlier Smiths songs. Not necessarily better, just older.<\/p>\n Morrissey<\/strong> has said that while he loves\u00a0The Queen Is Dead<\/em>,\u00a0Strangeways Here We Come<\/em> is his favourite Smiths album.
