Donald Trump told the widow of a fallen soldier that her husband \u201cknew what he was signing up for\u201d according to a congresswoman who was accompanying the widow as she awaited the body\u00a0of Sgt. La\u00a0David Johnson. Johnson was one of four soldiers killed in an ambush by ISIS-affiliated militants.<\/p>\n
Local 10 reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n President Donald\u00a0Trump spoke to his\u00a0wife, Myeshia Johnson for about five\u00a0minutes<\/a>. U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Florida,\u00a0said Trump told the distraught widow Johnson\u00a0\u201cknew what he was signing up for\u2026but when it happens, it hurts anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, he said that,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cSo insensitive. He should have not have said that. He shouldn\u2019t have said it.\u201d<\/p>\n Johnson\u2019s family \u2014 including his\u00a02-year-old son\u00a0and 6-year-old daughter \u2014 were at Miami International Airport waiting\u00a0for the Delta Airlines flight that was bringing the\u00a0casket with his remains. The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department welcomed him with a water salute.<\/p>\n Trump attacked back on Wednesday morning, claiming he had \u201cproof\u201d that he didn\u2019t say that to the soldier\u2019s widow.<\/p>\n Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). We\u2019ll post that video<\/a> when it becomes available.<\/p>\n There is a probe into the attack underway, TIME reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n The soldiers, part of a 12-strong Special Forces team led by Green Berets, were on their back from a meeting with local community leaders when they were\u00a0ambushed<\/a>\u00a0by a group of 50 ISIS-affiliated fighters armed with machine guns and rocket propelled grenades,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to CNN. The soldiers were reportedly only armed with rifles and their vehicles were not armored. The attack\u00a0lasted 30 minutes<\/a>\u00a0until French air support dispersed the militants and helicopters evacuated American forces.<\/p>\n The four soldiers killed in the shootout\u2014 Staff Sgt. Bryan Black, Staff Sgt. Jeremiah Johnson, and Staff Sgt. Dustin Wright, and Sgt. La David Johnson \u2014 were the first American soldiers killed by hostile fire since the U.S. began providing training and assistance to local military forces, the New York\u00a0Times<\/em>reported<\/a>.
