<\/a><\/p>\nThis week in New Music:\u00a0St Vincent<\/strong><\/a> is still at the top of her game on album number six,\u00a0Courtney Barnett<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Kurt Vile<\/strong> are the perfect match on\u00a0Lotta Sea Lice<\/i>,\u00a0<\/i>Haim<\/b> release a video<\/a> directed by Paul Thomas Anderson<\/a> and\u00a0The Smiths<\/a><\/strong> are on the reissue trail.<\/p>\n St. Vincent \u2013 <\/b>MASSEDUCATION<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n As <\/span>St. Vincent<\/b>, one of Annie Clark\u2019s greatest drawing points on her first five studio albums was to hide brilliant songs that are essentially pop inside a performance art\/art rock aesthetic.<\/span><\/p>\n 2015\u2019s self-titled album <\/span>St. Vincent<\/b> was a critical and \u2013 more importantly \u2013 commercial breakthrough from Clark, notching up in the region of 60 million plays on Spotify.<\/span><\/p>\n It\u2019s seemed like a long time since that seminal release. The wait has really been very short but here, finally, is album number six <\/span>MASSEDUCATION<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n In terms of sound, Clark hasn\u2019t quite abandoned her performance persona on <\/span>MASSEDUCATION<\/span><\/i>. However, beneath the sometimes grimish production, the introduction of brass of all things and the aping 80s-era <\/span>Prince<\/b> synth overkill, this is quite simply an excellent, fascinating and eclectic collection of frankly brilliant songs.<\/span><\/p>\n Clark hasn\u2019t said whether some of the songs are about her breakup with Cara Delevingne but if it helps to digest what\u2019s on offer, that\u2019s all to the good.<\/span><\/p>\n Have a look at Clark on <\/span>Later With Jools Holland<\/span><\/i> and her 2015 performance on the show.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile: <\/b>Lotta Sea Lice<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Australian singer-songwriter <\/span>Courtney Barnett<\/b><\/a> is one of those fringe singer-songwriters you have very possibly never heard of but has actually become relatively quite huge.<\/span><\/p>\n Known for her languid, sardonic, hazy style and heavily accented vocals, Barnett is in many ways a younger version of <\/span>Kurt Vile<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n Oh, hold on\u2026.<\/span><\/p>\n In what must be one of the most perfect pairings in indie rock in recent memory, on <\/span>Lotta Sea Lice<\/span><\/i> Barnett and Vile come together to drawl and sneer their way through nine tracks including five new ones.<\/span><\/p>\n Potentially, this project could have been overkill. Taking pot shots at how ridiculous the world can be is lovely and all, but could you listen to double the sarcasm for a sustained period.<\/span><\/p>\n Happily, also on offer here is two voices that complement each other so well they may as well get married and have babies. \u00a0Add to that Barnett\u2019s genuinely poetic lyrics and you have an indie rock wet dream.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Haim \u2013 \u201cLittle of Your Love\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Sister trio\u00a0Haim<\/strong> have issued a Paul Thomas Anderson-directed video<\/a> for their insanely catchy single \u201cLittle of Your Love.\u201d<\/p>\n Have a look below.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Smiths \u2013 \u201cI Know It\u2019s Over\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n In what has to be the biggest reissue, reissue repackage of the year,\u00a0The Smiths<\/strong> have released an early version of \u201cI Know It\u2019s Over\u201d from\u00a0The Queen Is Dead<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Taken from an upcoming deluxe reissue of the album, the demo of course has the charm of the original but stripped back, it sounds like an earlier, classic version of the band.<\/p>\n On the reissue (due next Friday), Morrissey said:<\/p>\n \u201cYou cannot continue to record and simply hope that your audience will approve, or that average critics will approve, or that radio will approve.
