The 69th<\/sup> annual Emmy Awards air this Sunday, with a substantial amount of LGBTQ talent up for awards,\u00a0inclusive shows nominated, and LGBTQ presenters at the ceremony. It’s important for the industry to keep telling our stories<\/a>, and for the LGBTQ creatives in front of and behind the camera<\/a> to get the recognition they deserve.\u00a0The Emmys will air Sunday, September 17th<\/sup>, at 8pm EST\/5pm PST on CBS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The presenters for the 69th<\/sup> annual Emmy Awards were announced this week.<\/a> The list includes out actor BD Wong who was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor for Mr. Robot <\/em>and infamous out actress and comedian Lily Tomlin, who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Grace and Frankie. <\/em>Previous Emmy winner Sarah Paulson will also be presenting, as will Matt Bomer.<\/p>\n

\"\"In addition to Tomlin, other out nominees include Evan Rachel Wood for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for\u00a0Westworld <\/em>and Samira Wiley for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as lesbian<\/a> character Moira in The Handmaid’s Tale. <\/em>On the comedy side, Kate McKinnon is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Saturday Night Live, <\/em>and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s <\/em>Titus Burgess is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.<\/p>\n

Behind the camera<\/a> nominations include Lena Waithe for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for the Master of None<\/em> episode “Thanksgiving,” which was a beautiful portrayal of\u00a0her coming out story<\/a>. Out director Jamie Babbit received a nomination for Outstanding Director of a Comedy Series for the episode “Intellectual Property” of Silicon Valley. <\/em>Ryan Murphy received five nominations, which included Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic special for Feud: Bette and Joan. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The nominations for Outstanding Drama Series include\u00a0LGBTQ-inclusive shows\u00a0House of Cards, This is Us, <\/em>and The Handmaid’s Tale<\/em>, the latter of which received three Creative Arts Emmys. Master of None, Modern Family, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, <\/em>and Veep <\/em>are all nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. For Outstanding Sketch Variety Series, Billy on the Street, Portlandia, <\/em>and Saturday Night Live<\/em> all received a nomination and Project Runway <\/em>and RuPaul’s Drag Race <\/em>are nominated for Outstanding Reality Competition Program. The GLAAD Media Award-winning episode of Black Mirror, <\/em>“San Junipero” was nominated for both Outstanding Television Movie and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special.<\/p>\n

\"\"The Creative Arts Emmys were announced last weekend, and the winners include Jane Lynch for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for Dropping the Soap, <\/em>three wins for RuPaul’s Drag Race<\/em>, and three wins for The Handmaid’s Tale<\/em>, including Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series being awarded to Alexis Bledel for portraying the lesbian<\/a> character of Ofglen.<\/p>\n

The winners will be announced at the 69th<\/sup> Annual Emmy Award ceremony hosted by Stephen Colbert on CBS at 8pm ET\/5pm PT. Tune into the show to support LGBTQ voices and stories in television and to see if your favorite nominees will take home the statue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
