<\/a><\/p>\nThis week in New Music: is the end of the road for Fifth Harmony<\/strong>,\u00a0Tegan and Sarah<\/strong><\/a> (above) team up with producer\u00a0Matthew Dear<\/strong>,\u00a0The War on Drugs<\/strong> go old-school rock,\u00a0Beck<\/strong> continues down the long road to his new album and\u00a0Morrissey<\/strong><\/a> is back (again).<\/p>\n Fifth Harmony \u2013 <\/b>Fifth Harmony<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Ah, the inevitable curse of the boy<\/a>\/girl<\/a> band \u2013 one member is always going to leave because of creative indifferences\/similarities with the remaining three\/four\/sometimes five members vowing to \u201ckeep doing it for the fans.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re going nowhere,\u201d they\u2019ll tell us. \u201cOur Journey has just begun\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n On their first two albums, <\/span>Fifth Harmony<\/b> were one of the best in show with brilliant tracks like \u201cNot That Kind of Girl\u201d with <\/span>Missy Elliot<\/b><\/a> for god\u2019s sake and \u201cWorth It\u201d from their debut.<\/span><\/p>\n Sad to say that their third album sounds like a final one \u2013 it includes some genuine stompers like \u201cHe Like That\u201d. However, despite coming in at just over 30 minutes, it\u2019s still too long because of the will-do\u2019s and pure duds.<\/span><\/p>\n The outstanding track is \u201cDon\u2019t Say You Love Me\u201d. It\u2019s a mid tempo ballad which says everything.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Tegan and Sara\/Matthew Dear: \u201cBad Ones\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n While we await the October release of <\/span>The Con X: Covers<\/span><\/i> featuring other artists covering their songs, <\/span>Tegan and Sara<\/b> have released a collaboration with producer <\/span>Matthew Dear<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n While musicians can often come up with terrible pretentious nonsense to describe their work, as previously noted on Towleroad, Sara said the song is perfect for late night bus rides in headphones. <\/span><\/p>\n Noted Dear:<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWorking with Tegan and Sara reminds me the best songs are born from an open and free process. Often times, we need to get out of our own way to let the magic happen, and this song is a bold reminder of that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Perfect late night synth pop that will remind you of <\/span>Haim<\/b>, <\/span>Haerts<\/b> et al.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n The War on Drugs \u2013 <\/b>A Deeper Understanding<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n He deleted and re-recorded the last album? Heard it before. Really?<\/span><\/p>\n During that re-recording he took to obsessively watching speaker vibrations to ensure that levels were perfect. Hmm\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n That album <\/span>Lost in the Dream <\/span><\/i>became the band\u2019s breakthrough and was a relatively huge commercial success, reminiscent as it was of 80s and 90s drivetime music from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Bryan Adams.<\/span><\/p>\n On the latest release <\/span>A Deeper Understanding<\/span><\/i>, Granduciel apparently loosened up a bit and worked in the studio with a full band. <\/span><\/p>\n The result: the Bryan Adams influences are to the fore, so much so that you could honestly listen to this blind and assume it was the Canadian singer songwriter, complete with guitar solos.<\/span><\/p>\n That all sounds terrible but it really isn\u2019t. <\/span>A Deeper Understanding<\/span><\/i> isn\u2019t clever like the previous album, it\u2019s just a somewhat tortured soul letting rip on some really great rock songs. Nothing wrong with that.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Beck \u2013 \u201cDear Life\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n It seems like years ago since <\/span>Beck<\/b> first mentioned his latest album <\/span>Colors<\/span><\/i> which is set to be released in October.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWow,\u201d the first release from the album came last June and since then Beck has also issued \u201cDreams\u201d and \u201cUp All Night.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Signalling Beck has moved on from his last album, 2014\u2019s genuinely heartbreaking <\/span>Morning Phase<\/span><\/i>, \u201cDear Life\u201d is a jaunty little number and the best of those released so far for public consumption. Is that a bad thing for a 10-track album? Probably\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Morrissey \u2013\u00a0Low in High-School<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n And finally, after the debacle of 2014 which saw Harvest allegedly deleting\u00a0World Peace is None of Your Business\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>after\u00a0Morrissey\u00a0<\/strong>slagged off the label, the man<\/a>-who-never-learns-what\u2019s-best-for-him has announced a new album.<\/p>\n Low in High-School<\/em> will be released on November 17th via his own label Etienne.<\/p>\n World Peace\u2026<\/em> was one of Moz\u2019s best albums in years so it\u2019s a shame it went to shit.<\/p>\n He\u2019s been very hit and miss for the past 20 years and is due a stinker.
