<\/a><\/p>\nTrump\u2019s nominee for chief scientist in the Department of Agriculture Sam Clovis believes that being gay<\/a> is a choice and has said that offering legal protections for LGBT people will lead to protection for pedophiles.<\/p>\n CNN reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n \u201cSomeone who engages in LGBT behavior \u2014 I don\u2019t know what the science is on this, I think it\u2019s still out \u2014 but as far as we know, LGBT behavior is a choice they make, Clovis says in a video<\/a> obtained by CNN\u2019s KFile. \u201cSo we\u2019re being asked to provide Constitutional protections for behavior, a choice in behavior as opposed to a primary characteristic.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s no equivalency there between the civil rights issue associated between those protected classes and the civil rights of someone who engages in a particular behavior,\u201d continues Clovis. \u201cFollow the logic, if you engage in a particular behavior, what also becomes protected? If we protect LGBT behavior, what other behaviors are we going to protect? Are we going to protect pedophilia? Are we going to protect polyamorous marriage relationships? Are we going to protect people who have fetishes? What\u2019s the logical extension of this? It can\u2019t be that we\u2019re going to protect LGBT and then we\u2019ll pull up the ladder. That\u2019s not going to happen, it defies logic. We\u2019re not thinking the consequences of these decisions through.\u201d<\/p>\n When a questioner said some might call<\/a> what Clovis\u2019 words extreme \u2014 comparing the approval of same-sex<\/a> protections to allowing pedophilia. Clovis said it was \u201clogical.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s extreme,\u201d said Clovis. \u201cI think it\u2019s a logical extension of thought.
