Man Sentenced to Seven Years for Deliberately Infecting Partners With HIV<\/b><\/p>\n

A 25-year-old man<\/a> has been jailed for knowingly passing on the HIV virus<\/a> to two former lovers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Based in Nottingham<\/a>, England, Antonio Reyes-Minana had unprotected sex<\/a> with two other men<\/a> separately in 2008 and 2012. The men<\/a> later discovered their HIV status during routine screening in 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reyes-Minana denied two counts of grievous bodily harm but was convicted by a jury of infecting his partners.<\/span><\/p>\n

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday, he was jailed for seven years. He will serve half of the sentence in prison and half on licence, reports <\/span>Metro<\/b><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following sentencing, Detective Sergeant Andrew Hall said:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt has taken a long time to bring the case to court and we are pleased with the result today. The victims now have to live<\/a> with a terminal illness. They gave evidence during the trial as Reyes-Minana had maintained his innocence but can at least find some comfort in knowing that their offender now has to take responsibility for what he\u2019s done.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope this raises awareness of this issue and how important it is to disclose such medical conditions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A Crown Prosecution Service spokesman added that Reyes-Minana\u2019s actions \u201cwill remain with his victims for the rest of their lives.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
