Texas anti<\/em>-LGBTQ activists have worked with hate-group the Family Research Council (FRC), called the HIV and AIDS epidemic \u201cGod\u2019s judgment as a result of an immoral act\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n

NEW YORK \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>GLAAD, the world\u2019s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today released background information on Texas Pastors Council\u00a0Action, Texas Values, Vision America Action, and Texas Right to Life \u2013 anti-LGBTQ groups behind this morning\u2019s\u00a0rally<\/a>\u00a0in support of Texas Governor Greg Abbott\u2019s anti-trans<\/a> \u201cspecial discrimination session.\u201d\u00a0The session\u00a0includes Abbott\u2019s call<\/a> to pass anti-transgender legislation\u00a0including\u00a0Senate Bill 3,\u00a0a bill which would bar transgender and gender non-conforming Texans from access to restrooms and students from participating in athletics in accordance with their gender identity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gov. Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick have a\u00a0record<\/a>\u00a0of turning to anti-LGBTQ hate groups to publicly promote their anti-transgender agenda,\u00a0even\u00a0at a time when\u00a0a\u00a0majority of Texans<\/a>\u00a0oppose\u00a0such harmful measures. The Texas Pastors Council Action, for instance, has worked closely with anti-LGBTQ hate group the Family Research Council (FRC) and\u00a0once claimed LGBTQ rights are\u00a0as\u00a0\u201cequally offensive\u201d to God as slavery.\u00a0Vision America Action once claimed the HIV and AIDS epidemic was \u201cGod\u2019s judgment as a result of an immoral act.\u201d Anti-trans<\/a> groups like the Texas Pastors Council Action and the Vision America Action have fueled a debate that has already put the\u00a0safety<\/a>\u00a0of trans<\/a> Texans and the\u00a0economic<\/a>\u00a0well-being<\/a>\u00a0of the state in jeopardy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Just last month, Gov. Abbott himself showed\u00a0the\u00a0true intentions of his \u201cspecial discrimination session\u201d when he\u00a0described<\/a>\u00a0SB 3 as \u201cTransgender Bathrooms\u201d\u00a0in a tweet.\u00a0Abbott\u2019s agenda is in direct opposition with Texas House Speaker Joe Straus, a Republican, who voiced his opposition to the anti-trans<\/a> bills by saying he was \u201cdisgusted by all this<\/a>\u201d and did not \u201ca suicide of a single Texan on [his] hands<\/a>.\u201d If an anti-trans<\/a> bill like SB 3\u00a0is signed\u00a0into law, it could drain about\u00a0$3 billion<\/a>\u00a0from the state\u2019s economy while also putting the safety of transgender Texans in jeopardy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
