<\/a><\/p>\nTrans actor August Aiden stars in a powerful new video<\/a> from singer-songwriter Wrabel for his\u00a0track \u201cThe Village\u201d, written in response to Donald Trump\u2019s attacks on transgender people.<\/p>\n Wrabel penned an open letter about the video<\/a>:<\/p>\n i wrote this song on february 23rd. the day after trump took away federal protections for trans<\/a> students in public schools. today i release it, just days after he tweeted to ban trans<\/a> people from serving in the military.<\/em><\/p>\n i just wanted to write a simple song letting anyone that feels like an outsider know that the problem isn\u2019t you, it\u2019s them. it\u2019s the village. not in an aggressive us vs. them way, but just because you are the minority\u2026 just because people whisper \u201cfreak\u201d when u walk down the hall\u2026 all of these things\u2026 it\u2019s so hard out there\u2026 i know it is. these things aren\u2019t pointing towards something wrong with YOU they\u2019re pointing to a humongous problem with the majority\u2026 the \u201cthem\u201d. there\u2019s nothing wrong with you, there\u2019s something wrong with the village.<\/em><\/p>\n two of my biggest supporters are trans<\/a> teenagers<\/a>. i\u2019ve had the chance to meet their families. to get to know them. to hear about their struggles and dreams. hi. if you guys<\/a> are reading this, i need to say thank you. thank you for being YOU. thank you for being honest and courageous and bold and vulnerable and transparent and true. you inspire me to be myself. you inspire me to be fearless in my self expression. my heart breaks for you. what this man<\/a> is saying and doing. it has to stop. he is giving the village permission to hate. to look at those who are different as wrong and lesser than. i don\u2019t know how else to raise my voice than in a song. and so, i wrote a song for you.<\/em><\/p>\n i came out as gay<\/a> at around 23. i grew up in the church. i came out into a church in los angeles that called it \u201csame sex<\/a> attraction\u201d. it was wrong. i was wrong. it was evil. i was evil. \u201cunnatural\u201d they called it. \u201cunnatural\u201d they called me. i can\u2019t pretend like i know what it\u2019s like to be trans<\/a>. to feel those feelings and know those struggles. all i can do is try to speak up and try to relate.<\/em><\/p>\n there\u2019s nothing wrong with you, there\u2019s something wrong with the village.<\/em><\/p>\n Watch:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The post Wrabel Rips Trump\u2019s Attacks on Trans People with Empowering Video About Feeling Like an Outsider: WATCH<\/a> appeared first on Towleroad<\/a>.<\/p>\n
