The Fosters<\/em> is a drama airing on Freeform about a \u201cmulti-ethnic family mix of foster, adopted, and biological kids being raised by two moms\u201d that has been praised for its portrayal of LGBTQ characters. The series received the GLAAD Media Award in Outstanding Drama Series at the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, and has been nominated in the category a total of four times.\u00a0Recently, the series has been following Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Aaron\u2019s (Elliot Fletcher) developing relationship, and in last week\u2019s episode \u201cContact\u201d they went on their first official date.<\/p>\n

When TV has so few trans<\/a> stories, – and even fewer stories about trans<\/a> men<\/a>, GLAAD’s 2016-17 Where We Are on TV<\/em> <\/a>report counted only four transgender men<\/a> across primetime scripted broadcast, cable, and streaming originals – Aaron has been a source of positive and much needed representation for trans<\/a> young people. By showing transgender characters simply living their lives and taking the next step in their relationships, The Fosters<\/em> is accelerating acceptance and encouraging new conversations in culture.<\/p>\n
