Bigoted and homophobic Iowa Rep. Steve King spoke out on the House floor this week about the defeat of a measure that would have prohibited the Army from paying for gender transition surgery for transgender troops.<\/p>\n
King compared the situation to that of the Ottoman Empire:<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat they did in order to keep them from reproducing was that they did reassignment surgery on those slaves they had captured, that they had put into their janissary troops.\u00a0And that reassignment surgery was they took them from being a virile, reproductive male<\/a> into being a eunuch.\u00a0That\u2019s a lesson of the military \u2014\u00a0the Ottoman military \u2014\u00a0from two, three, 400 years ago\u2026And today, we\u2019re here thinking somehow we\u2019re going to make the military better by letting people line up at their recruitment center who\u00a0have planned that they want to do sexual reassignment surgery, know that it\u2019s expensive, and believe \u2018if I can just get into any branch of the United States services \u2014 to the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Marines; maybe become a Navy SEAL \u2014 and then submit to sexual reassignment surgery and then go from a man<\/a> to a woman<\/a>.’\u201d<\/p>\n Watch:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The post Rep.
