Anti-transgender activist is latest to be added to the most anti-LGBTQ administration in recent memory<\/em><\/p>\n

NEW YORK<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Yesterday, reports surfaced<\/a> that President Trump appointed Bethany Kozma to serve as Senior Advisor to the Office of Gender Equality and Women\u2019s Empowerment at the US Agency for International Development. Kozma\u2019s qualification for the role? She is known for being an anti-transgender activist, and, through this appointment, the Trump Administration has added yet another anti-LGBTQ activist to what has already been the most anti-LGBTQ administration in recent memory.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you google the name Bethany Kozma the first hit is a screed against transgender youth, but that\u2019s not surprising since President Trump has been recruiting from a pool of the most vehemently anti-LGBTQ activists to run our great nation,\u201d said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis<\/strong>. \u201cAt a time when transgender women<\/a> are facing rising levels of violence and income inequality, appointing someone to this post who has dedicated their life to harming transgender youth is a slap in the face to LGBTQ Americans and a huge leap in the wrong direction which could place some of the most marginalized Americans directly in harm\u2019s way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bethany Kozma has a history of peddling false and defamatory myths<\/a> about transgender people. Her anti-LGBTQ activist work includes published work at the Daily Signal<\/a>, a publication managed by the Heritage Foundation, and partnerships with anti-LGBTQ hate groups such as the Family Research Council<\/a>. Kozma was one of the most visible leaders in a campaign<\/a> to bar transgender students access to bathrooms corresponding with their gender identity at school.<\/p>\n

— Testified<\/strong><\/a> to her local school board that there is a direct link between sexual predators and trans<\/a> access to facilities.<\/strong> \u201cImagine how predators will be emboldened and enabled, endangering other young girls<\/a> if they are allowed to enter girls<\/a> facilities and protected under your current policy.\u201d (Begins at 17:10)<\/p>\n

— Informed her school board<\/a> that the next superintendent must \u201cnot violate Title IX, not just in the female<\/a> sports by allowing males<\/a> to unfairly compete and possibly severely injure the girls<\/a>, but also not allow males<\/a> to take over bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms and push out females<\/a>, denying them their right for privacy and safety.\u201d <\/strong>(Begins at 53:55)<\/p>\n

— Partnered<\/strong><\/a> with anti-LGBTQ hate groups including Family Research Council<\/strong> in a campaign<\/a> to overturn the Obama Department of Education guidance for transgender students.<\/p>\n
