Seth Meyers took apart Senate Republicans on Trumpcare and the \u201cbreathtakingly cynical process to produce a breathtakingly cruel bill\u201d last night in his Closer Look segment, setting it up with a list of Trump\u2019s promises like the border wall and statements about wealthy people in his cabinet.<\/p>\n
Said Meyers:<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd that truly seems to be the operating ethos of the Trump era, a president who\u00a0campaigned on populist rhetoric but whose policy would cause needless suffering for low- and middle-income people.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are some Republicans who claim at least that they are against throwing people off of Medicaid like this, so what happened to those Republicans,\u201d Meyers asked. \u201cWell they didn\u2019t even know what was in the bill until it was revealed today because Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was basically writing it himself behind closed doors, and nobody\u2019s ever doing anything good behind closed doors. If your teenage<\/a> son was locked in his bedroom this long, you wouldn\u2019t say, \u2018Hey buddy! Are you doing extra credit homework in there?’\u201d<\/p>\n Meyers added:<\/p>\n \u201cThe process for writing this bill was so secretive that even the people who were supposed to be writing it had no idea what was in it.\u201d<\/p>\n Meyers then pointed out Senator Mike Lee, who was named as one of 13 senators in the working group to develop the healthcare bill, but admitted to his constituents in a video<\/a> earlier this week that he hadn\u2019t seen the bill.<\/p>\n Meyers also mocked Senator John McCain\u2019s sassy backtalk to reporters who were asking about the bill, but saved his heaviest fire for McConnell, and his response to Chuck Schumer\u2019s request to review the bill:<\/p>\n \u201cI think \u2018we\u2019ll have ample opportunity to read and amend the bill\u2019 is the longest euphemism I\u2019ve ever heard for \u2018go f**k yourself.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n As well as\u00a0the Majority Leader\u2019s hypocrisy:<\/p>\n \u201cRepublicans can hate Obamacare, but they cannot argue that it wasn\u2019t far more open, transparent and inclusive than the process the Republicans are using now\u2026What we\u2019re seeing right now is a breathtakingly cynical process to produce a breathtakingly cruel bill.\u201d<\/p>\n Watch:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The post Seth Meyers Rips Mitch McConnell and the \u2018Breathlessly Cruel\u2019 Trumpcare Bill: WATCH<\/a> appeared first on Towleroad<\/a>.<\/p>\n
