<\/a><\/p>\nThis week in New Music: A sort of grown up\u00a0Beth Ditto<\/strong>\u00a0(above) is back with her first solo album,\u00a0Lorde<\/strong><\/a> contemplates life on\u00a0Melodrama<\/em>,\u00a0Cathedrals<\/strong> are all about the gooey electro pop and\u00a0Keep Shelly In Athens<\/strong> are more laid back for album number three.<\/p>\n Beth Ditto \u2013 <\/b>Fake Sugar<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Between the rock swagger there are occasional ballads of all things on <\/span>Fake Sugar<\/span><\/i>. <\/span><\/p>\n While pop-rock songs like \u201cSavoir Faire\u201d are somewhat vapid and Ditto is perhaps not sure if she want to be <\/span>Katy Perry<\/b> or <\/span>Pussy Riot<\/b>, stormers like \u201cOo La La\u201d make up for any shortcomings.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Lorde \u2013 <\/b>Melodrama<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Which is at best very unfair to Swift especially as Yelich-O\u2019Connor seems to have taken the almost-comparison on board for her second album <\/span>Melodrama<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n While <\/span>Pure Heroine<\/span><\/i> was all about the star struck ingenue on the outskirts looking in, <\/span>Melodrama<\/span><\/i>\u00a0is about the shit storm that came in the album\u2019s wake.<\/span><\/p>\n Gone are the hip-hopish influences to be replaced with genius pop in all it\u2019s glory. Opening track \u201cGreen Light\u201d is massive pop with echo chorus and all, \u201cLiability\u201d is a perfectly assembled ballad and closing track \u201cPerfect Places\u201d sums up Lorde\u2019s experiences. Everything in between is also expertly plotted but with great feeling.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Cathedrals \u2013 \u201cWith You\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n Like Lorde\u2019s <\/span>Melodrama<\/span><\/i>, \u201cWith You\u201d is as perfect as pop can get. A romantic, dreamy number, the duo are concerned with \u201cthe sense of comfort and peace you find when somebody \u2018feels like home\u2019 to you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Keep Shelly In Athens \u2013 \u201cLeave In Silence\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n Armed with a new singer for album number three <\/span>Philokalia<\/span><\/i>, the lead track has a touch of 90s-era downtempo releases from the likes of <\/span>Air<\/b> and <\/span>Moby<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n The post NEW MUSIC: Beth Ditto, Lorde, Cathedrals, Keep Shelly In Athens<\/a> appeared first on Towleroad<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n<\/a>Electro pop duo <\/span>Cathedrals<\/b> are back with their latest track \u201cWith You.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n
