<\/p>\nSerbian President Names Ana Brnabic as Country\u2019s First Openly Gay and First Female Prime Minister<\/b><\/p>\n

Ana Brnabic, who became Serbia\u2019s first openly gay minister last August<\/a>, has been appointed as the country\u2019s Prime Minister, making history again.<\/p>\n The Independent<\/em> reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n President Aleksandar Vucic announced Ana Brnabic is his official nomination as Prime Minister-designate. Her government needs formal approval by Serbia\u2019s parliament next week.<\/p>\n Vucic calls<\/a> it \u201ca difficult decision reached in the interest of Serbia and its citizens.\u201d Ms Brnabic is currently government minister of public administration and local government.<\/p>\n Her appointment into government last year was hailed by human rights groups as historic for the country whose gay<\/a> community continues to face discrimination, harassment and violence.<\/p>\n The 41-year-old new Prime Minister is a former \u201cbusinesswoman of the year\u201d in her country and was educated partly in the UK and in the US.
