NEW MUSIC: Lil Yachty, London Grammar, Sia<\/b><\/p>\n

This week in New Music: Millennial rap from\u00a0Lil Yachty<\/b>\u00a0(above),\u00a0<\/b>London Grammar<\/strong> are drowned out on their glacial second album, and\u00a0Sia<\/strong>\u2018s #EndHIV<\/a> song hits emotional highs with a video<\/a> starring Zoe Saldana.<\/p>\n

Lil Yachty<\/b> \u2013 <\/b>Teenage Emotions<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

\"lil<\/a>19-year-old Atlanta rapper <\/span>Lil Yachty<\/b> has been on the receiving end of some serious flak from purists because of his entirely irreverent take on hip hop.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s understandable when you hear tracks like the 80s-referencing \u201cBring It Back\u201d \u2013 sax solo and all \u2013 which you could genuinely imagine on the soundtrack for <\/span>Top Gun 2<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBring It Back\u201d isn\u2019t actually a rap though and <\/span>Teenage Emotions<\/span><\/i> is as genre-busting as the brilliant <\/span>Blood Orange<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite his refreshing millennial take, some listeners might be put off by Lil Yachty\u2019s misogyny. A teetotaler, there are scant references to drink and drugs, there are boys<\/a> kissing on the album cover, but bitches abound.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n

London Grammar \u2013 <\/b>Truth Is A Beautiful Thing<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

\"london-grammar\"<\/a>London Grammar were one of the next-big-things when they appeared unannounced with their 2013 debut album <\/span>If You Wait<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Four years on and apparently exhausted from constant touring and bouts of stage fright, the trio return with the somewhat overcooked <\/span>Truth Is A Beautiful Thing<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the most part, the album can be described as glacial pop \u2013 think <\/span>Sigur Ros<\/b> meets <\/span>Lorde<\/b>. That approach in and of itself is not a bad thing but it runs out of steam pretty quickly. That and the identity crisis \u2013 \u201cBig Picture\u201d = 90s <\/span>U2<\/b> \u2013 will leave many listeners cold which is a terrible shame as there are some genuinely excellent songs to be had. Strip this back to ten essential songs and release a non-deluxe edition in it\u2019s place.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Sia \u2013 \u201cFree Me\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

The proceeds from <\/span>Sia<\/b>\u2019s \u201cFree Me\u201d will go to benefit the <\/span>#EndHiv<\/b><\/a> campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n

A ballad with the levels of emotion you would expect from Sia, the song\u2019s context is beautifully highlighted with a video<\/a> starring Zoe Saldana and Julianne Moore.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
