Seth Meyers previewed James Comey\u2019s Senate hearing last night and examined\u00a0Trump\u2019s tweeting obsession, which White House aides seem determined to declare irrelevant.<\/p>\n
Said Meyers:<\/p>\n
\u201cComey\u2019s opening statement is now public, and it includes\u00a0some damning and truly bizarre details about Comey\u2019s uncomfortable interactions with Trump. First of all, just the sheer number of conversations Comey had with Trump is\u00a0itself weird. Comey says\u00a0he spoke with President Obama just two times. Trump on the other hand wouldn\u2019t leave him alone\u2026Nine times. To put that in perspective he\u2019s only talked to Eric {Trump] five times ever. And three of those were just, \u2018what\u2019s your name again?’\u201d<\/p>\n
Meyers\u00a0noted that the words\u00a0Trump used in his conversations with\u00a0Comey came from\u00a0\u201cthe vague dialect\u00a0of mobsters so that Comey had no idea what he was talking about, at one point saying\u00a0\u201cwe had that thing, you know.\u201d No, Comey did not know what \u201cthat thing\u201d referred to.<\/p>\n
Meyers also looked at Trump aide Sebastian Gorka\u2019s attempt to argue that Trump\u2019s tweets are irrelevant and not policy, telling CNN\u2019s Chris Cuomo that he had an \u201cobsession\u201d with Trump\u2019s use of social media.<\/p>\n
Quipped Meyers:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe only obsession that matters is the president\u2019s obsession with using social media to say unhinged things. It\u2019s not our fault for paying attention. Social media wasn\u2019t around during the civil war but if Abraham Lincoln opened his window and shouted nonsense every ten minutes the press would have covered it.\u201d<\/p>\n
