<\/a><\/p>\nThis week in New Music:\u00a0British Sea Power<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(above) examine Brexit isolation on\u00a0Let the Dancers Inherit the Earth<\/span><\/i>,\u00a0<\/em>Stevie Parker<\/b><\/strong>\u2018s breakup album would scare the wits out of Sam Smith\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Chromatics<\/strong> share a video<\/a> for \u201cShadow\u201d which was performed in the new series of\u00a0Twin Peaks<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n British Sea Power \u2013 <\/b>Let the Dancers Inherit the Earth<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n The \u201cthrowback\u201d element is not meant as an insult. British Sea Power are a quintessentially <\/span>British<\/span><\/i> band. Their sound, lyrics, thematic concerns, style and presentation suggest and updated Merchant Ivory soundtrack. You can already hear them over any future updated remake of <\/span>Maurice<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n According to <\/span>guitarist Martin Noble, <\/span>Let the Dancers Inherit the Earth<\/span><\/i> was written as a response to \u201cpoliticians perfecting the art of unabashed lying, social media echo chambers and electronic toys to keep us befuddled.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Informed by Brexit then, the album retreats into Englishness at its best, recalling as BSP always do the poppy, optimistic but ultimately melancholy of indie greats like James and Blur.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Stevie Parker \u2013 <\/b>The Cure<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Parker\u2019s debut album <\/span>The Cure<\/span><\/i> examines in sometimes painful detail a breakup with her former girlfriend<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n While Parker\u2019s anti-style speaks to a more \u201cserious\u201d Adele, the songs on this album are generally so stark that they are often more heartbreaking. <\/span><\/p>\n Given the lack of bombast, this is one breakup album that \u2013 along with likes of <\/span>Noah and the Whale<\/b>\u2019s <\/span>The First Day of Spring<\/span><\/i> \u2013 will likely fly under the radar while <\/span>Sam Smith<\/b> gets all of the awards.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIf she told you she loves you, I\u2019ll hunt her down and have my way,\u201d sings Parker on the poppy single \u2018Stay\u2019. \u201cIf she tells you she missed you, it\u2019ll be the last thing that she\u2019ll say.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n Adele and Sam would run a mile.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Chromatics \u2013 \u201cShadow\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n So.\u00a0Twin Peaks<\/strong> series 3. Did you love it or hate it?<\/p>\n There has been much discussion of\u00a0David Lynch<\/strong>\u2018s decision to insert seemingly random live<\/a> performances of songs at The Roadhouse. Lynch has verified that they are just songs he likes that fit into the Twin Peaks universe.<\/p>\n It\u2019s also been more or less verified that as an 18-hour movie, a song will act as a marker to the end of a chapter. And yes, Julee Cruise<\/a> will feature.<\/p>\n The first song at the end of parts 1 & 2 was Chromatics with the haunting and entirely fitting \u201cShadow\u201d which was used to reintroduce two old characters, Shelley Johnson and James Hurley.<\/p>\n When James arrived at the Roadhouse with someone wearing a blue glove, Shelley explained that he had a motorbike accident that changed his personality. \u201cBut he\u2019s still cool,\u201d she said. \u201cJames has always been cool.\u201d \u00a0A finger to critics of the character in series two backed by a perfect soundtrack.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The post New Music: British Sea Power, Stevie Parker, Twin Peaks soundtrack<\/a> appeared first on Towleroad<\/a>.<\/p>\n
\n<\/a>English act <\/span>British Sea Power<\/b> have been producing throwback indie rock for 14 years now over five \u201cproper\u201d albums, an instrumental soundtrack <\/span>for 1934 film <\/span>Man of Aran<\/span><\/i> and a reinterpretation of some old material on <\/span>Sea of Brass <\/span><\/i>in 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n
\n<\/a>If <\/span>Adele<\/b> is all glitz and glamour heartache, English singer-songwriter <\/span>Stevie Parker<\/b> is the everywoman\u2019s angrier alternative.<\/span><\/p>\n
