The newly-crowned Miss USA<\/a> has caused a social media hullabaloo by claiming that affordable healthcare<\/a> is a privilege, not a right.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kara McCullough, who is also a scientist at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, linked health care access to job creation, suggesting that people without a job are not entitled to coverage, reports the <\/span>NY Daily News<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m definitely going to say it\u2019s a privilege,\u201d McCullough said during the Sunday night pageant at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. \u201cAs a government employee, I\u2019m granted health care. And I see firsthand that for one, to have health care, you need to have jobs, so therefore we need to continue to cultivate this environment so that we\u2019re given the opportunities to have health care as well as jobs for all Americans worldwide.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

While many conservative and right wing commentators supported McCullough, the reaction elsewhere was cooler.<\/span><\/p>\n

Twitter user Kyle Morris wrote: \u201cThe hypocritical left is outraged because<\/span> #MissUSA<\/a><\/strong> 2017, K\u00e1ra McCullough, has different views on feminism and health care in America.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
