The FCC has launched a ludicrous investigation into a joke made by Stephen Colbert in his monologue on Monday night that caused the hashtag #FireColbert to trend on Twitter for a short period.<\/p>\n
In the monologue,\u00a0Colbert unpacked Donald Trump\u2019s recent interview with CBS reporter John Dickerson<\/a> which was shut down finally when Dickerson asked Trump about calling Obama a \u201csick\u201d and \u201cbad\u201d man<\/a> and Trump\u2019s claims he was surveilled.<\/p>\n Colbert ended his monologue with a barrage of insults aimed at Trump, one of which pissed a lot of people off.<\/p>\n Said Colbert:<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you insult one member of the CBS family, you insult us all!\u2026You talk like a sign language gorilla that got hit in the head. \u00a0The only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin\u2019s c**k holster.\u201d<\/p>\n The obscenity was bleeped.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Hill reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n FCC Chairman Ajit Pai promised to \u201ctake the appropriate action\u201d following a comprehensive investigation of Colbert\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n The FCC\u2019s response will depend on whether Colbert\u2019s remarks are considered \u201cobscene.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe are going to take the facts that we find and we are going to apply the law as it\u2019s been set out by the Supreme Court and other courts and we\u2019ll take the appropriate action,\u201d he told Talk Radio 1210 WPHT Thursday.<\/p>\n \u201cTraditionally, the agency has to decide, if it does find a violation, what the appropriate remedy should be,\u201d he said. \u201cA fine, of some sort, is typically what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n According to The Hill<\/a>, \u201cThe FCC flags speech it considers \u201cindecent\u201d before 10 p.m., he told Fox Business Network, and looks for \u201cobscene\u201d content after that point.
