Donald Trump made some bizarre remarks about the Civil War today, referencing slaveholder and plantation owner Andrew Jackson, who died 16 years before the Civil War began, as as someone who would have been angry about the Civil War and would have stopped it.<\/p>\n
Said Trump: \u201cI mean, had Andrew Jackson been a little later, you wouldn\u2019t have had the Civil War. He was a very tough person, but he had a big heart. He was really angry that he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War. He said, \u201cThere\u2019s no reason for this.\u201d People don\u2019t realize, you know, the Civil War \u2014 if you think about it, why? People don\u2019t ask that question, but why was there a Civil War? Why could that one not have been worked out?\u201d<\/p>\n
Writes the WaPo<\/a>: \u201cOne glaring issue here: Jackson wasn\u2019t really angry about what was happening with the Civil War, because he died more than a decade (1845) before it started (1861).\u201d<\/p>\n 1 word answer: Slavery.
