31 House Democrats have sent a letter to Senate Armed Services Committee Chair John McCain urging the Senate to reject Tennessee Senator Mark Green, Trump\u2019s nominee for Army Secretary, over his history of attacks on LGBT people.<\/p>\n
The Tennesseean<\/em> reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n \u201cLGBT soldiers are willing to make tremendous sacrifices to protect our rights and freedoms,\u201d the lawmakers wrote in a letter. \u201cIt would be deeply disrespectful to their service to appoint a secretary of the Army whose history of homophobia and transphobia makes it clear that he is not willing to do the same for them.\u201d<\/p>\n Thirty-one House Democrats signed the letter, including Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy III, chairman of the Congressional Transgender Equality Task Force. None of the letter\u2019s signers are from Tennessee.<\/p>\n \u2026Multiple LGBT groups have denounced Green\u2019s nomination, calling him \u201ca social issues warrior\u201d who has worked to undermine LGBT rights at every turn.
